Kristen McKinney-Nash

Kristen McKinney-Nash is a passionate and dedicated educational leader with 30 years’ experience in the state of Virginia. Kristen has taught both Special Education and General Education at Title I schools over the course of her educational career. Eighteen years of her career was spent serving as an Assistant Principal and Principal also at a Title I elementary school where building family and community relationships were her strength, passion, and area of dedication.
Kristen spent the last three years of her educational career serving as the Family Engagement Specialist for her district. As the first Family Engagement Specialist for SCPS Kristen had the responsibility of creating a FACE office from the ground up to support 30 schools (17 elementary, 8 middle and 5 high schools) to develop relevant training in the area of Family Engagement during pre and post pandemic schooling.
Kristen has truly embraced and enjoyed all her roles which have impacted students and their families in a positive way. She has brought knowledge and professional development opportunities to her current role following the work of Dr. Karen Mapp and Dr. Stephen Constantino and has completed training through the William and Mary SURN Family Engagement Academy.
Kristen strongly believes that Family Engagement is the key strategy in academic success. She is a fierce proponent of families and school staff building partnerships focused around one another’s capabilities, and confidences to establish genuine connections which in turn benefit the primary focus of student success and wellbeing.
Kristen holds a Bachelors of Science in Special Education from Hampton University, a Masters Degree in Educational Administration From Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
